Eine Kinda Bachmusik: Program Notes

<-- Back

Particularly in terms of mallet instruments (marimba, vibes, xylophone, etc.), today's classically trained percussionists often perform, with equal comfort, in more modern, contemporary or popular music environments that raise the virtuosic bar. Eine Kinda Bachmusik is designed to showcase this dualism by presenting the marimba traditionally - as a chamber ensemble member whose primary role is to embellish and provide color - while simultaneously giving it the opportunity to shine through a highly challenging, highly virtuosic part that involves large leaps, seamless moves between linear 2-mallet and vertical 4 mallet work - all within the context of a rapid tempo.

This work is equally appropriate for intimate club-like settings and the concert stage, and is particularly effective as a percussionist's encore.
