"Olivieri Miniatures" was written for my good friend and fellow composer, Mark Olivieri in honor of his brood of 5 kids. "Amalia Stomp" is my vision of daughter Amalia in the early stages of following in the footsteps of her mother, herself a talented dancer. A sense of abandon is captured in tone cluster in the piano and frantic, flourished of random notes in the winds and string. A definite underlying funk pulse hints a future gift for rhythm. "a-flats for Janina" is a simple, subdued, almost surreal play of between an a-flat major chord and it's echoing dominant. "Lullabye for a future 6th" is my quick response to the amazing admission by the Olivieri's that they'd love to have 6th child! Here, I played around with a simple ostinato, almost hocket-like, between the flute and clarinet. A quiet brief, almost static, melody in the violin is at first lightly embellished by, then eventually taken over by the piano.
